Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
