Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism made him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
